SMEH Teaching Assistant (Primary) 

Location: Ashington 

Salary: £75 - £100 per day 

Start Date: ASAP 

Contract: Full time/Part Time

GSL Education Ashington are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SMEH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to join our client vibrant primary school community in Ashington.  

Job Summary: As an SMEH Teaching Assistant (Primary), you will play a crucial role in supporting students and helping them thrive academically and socially. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to primary students (KS 1 and KS 2) with SEMH needs. 
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored educational programs. 
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment. 
  • Help students develop coping strategies and social skills. 
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behaviour. 
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and other staff members. 
  • Support students during break and lunchtime activities. 
  • Implement behaviour management strategies effectively. 

Requirements: 

  • Previous experience as an SMEH Teaching Assistant (Primary) or in a similar role is beneficial but not essential. 
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE or NVQ would be a plus but not must. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with SEMH needs. 
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
