The school is looking for someone who has experience working with individuals and small groups of children with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. Due to the students having SEMH (and additional challenging behaviour), this role would suit someone who is able to build a strong rapport with young people and children, resilient, doesn’t take things personally, calm, and able to deescalate a situation. You would be working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and at times within small groups.

The ideal candidate: 

  • Experience working within an Education setting is not required, however, experience working with young people within a supportive setting is desired.  

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in either of the following: Challenging SEN Provisions, Youth/ Community/ Social Services, Residential Support, Ex-Military/

The role of a Cover Supervisor involves: -Sole responsibility for supervising classes and issuing work that has been set by the absent class teacher; -Managing the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment; -Responding to any questions from pupils about process and procedures; -Dealing with any immediate problems according to the school’s policies and procedures; -Collecting any completed work after the lesson and returning it to the appropriate teacher; -Reporting back as appropriate using the school’s agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class, and any issues arising. There are no qualifications necessary to work as a Cover Supervisor but you should feel confident to manage a class of students and to perform the above duties. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to manage cover for short-term absences of class teachers alongside supervising classes. The role will include using and updating SIMS to set cover and manage room changes.

You will also liaise with outside external supply agencies as required. You will also be expected to manage pupil behaviour in the classroom, assisting pupils in relevant activities in line with the school policy and procedures and supervision of homework club. Appropriate training will be provided. This post may particularly suit anyone who, in the future, is planning to undertake teacher training.

The position requires a high level of responsibility, organisation and accuracy to ensure the timetables have a member of staff present in each and every class.
