SEN Teacher - York
Start Date: 01/09/2021
Salary: £120 - £150 per day*
Contract: Supply / Temporary / Contract GSL Education are seeking to appoint a Special Needs Teacher in York from September 2021. You will be working through GSL at a local SEN School, providing education to children and young people with a range of additional needs. Applications are welcome from both Fully Qualified and Newly Qualified Teachers. 
Job Role Duties:
  • Teaching small class sizes of up to 8 pupils and on a 1:1 basis
  • Working in partnership with the Teaching Assistants to offer direction and support
  • Preparing lessons and resources in-line with the abilities of all students
  • Marking, assessing work and tracking pupil progress
  • Developing and adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Using special equipment and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants to define appropriate activities for pupils in relation to the curriculum
As the ideal SEN Teacher you should:
  • Be committed to working with pupils with special educational needs
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have the ability to build good relationships based on trust with pupils, their families, School staff and other education professionals
  • Have strong behaviour management skills with training such as Team Teach, MAPA or NAPPI (this is desirable and not essential)
  • Have an observant and responsive approach to teaching and learning 
  • Have a positive, energetic and enthusiastic outlook
  • Be patient, understanding and have empathy with pupils and parents
