This is a thrilling time to be joining the school, as they are looking to increase their ever-growing team of highly dedicated Teachers and Support Staff. The role will require you to support both the teacher and the pupils, as well as become involved in the extracurricular activities of the school.

Main Duties

· To work with identified pupils and small groups of pupils under the supervision of the teacher including the implementation of ILPs and the keeping of up to date records of interventions.

· Give daily feedback on pupil progress to the class teacher and update supporting documents as and when needed.

· Develop and sustain positive relationships with all pupils, acting as a role model by presenting a positive personal image and responding appropriately to individual needs.

· Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.

· Supervise lunchtime provision.

· Attend to pupils' personal needs, including pastoral, social, health, physical hygiene, minor first aid and welfare matters.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

· At least a Level 2 qualification in Supporting and Learning, with previous experience of providing interventions assistance

· A full year supporting with a full class is desirable

· Creative, Passionate and Fun

· Passionate to grow and develop

· Valid DBS registered with the update service, or be prepared to apply for a new one

GSL Education are currently working with fantastic SEND and Mainstream Primary Schools in and around Leicester.

The schools cater for children and young people with SEMH, Autism and Challenging Behaviour.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the class teacher with planning, monitoring and delivering creative lessons
  • Acting as a positive role model and managing behaviour
  • Providing 1:1 and small group Maths, English, Science and behaviour interventions.
  • Ensuring a safe learning environment and approaching education with a child centred approach. 
  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Under the direction of a teacher implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
  • Understand Individual Education Plans & Behaviour Support Plans and assist to implement these, under the guidance of the teacher

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A hard-working, energetic and flexible nature
  • Clear communication skills
  • A calm, understanding and consistent approach to working with children
  • Knowledge of Autism, SEMH, ADHD and Challenging Behaviour.
  • Ideally Team Teach trained.

The SEN Teaching Assistants will

  • have at least 6 months experience working with children who have learning and physical disabilities.
  • Experience supporting children with challenging behavior
  • Team Teach Certificate (desirable)
  • Flexible to work Monday – Friday in school hours.
  • Fully DBS checked (Can have a DBS through GSL if not)
  • Driver and own transport (desirable)

This will be supporting in delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage to start immediately. The role will largely involve carrying out observations on the children , delivering small group Reading Interventions and Numeracy activities.
