GSL Education is currently seeking to appoint a EAL Teaching Assistant to undertake a position at one of our Secondary schools in North London.

Due to an increased demand we are searching for outstanding EAL Teaching Assistants who feel passionately about making a real difference to the lives of their students.  Our school based in North London offers rich and stimulating curriculums in environments that support the pupils’ learning.  The roles would be secondary school based and you will be required to work with pupils in a 1-2-1 capacity or in small groups.

To be considered for a role as Teaching Assistant/LSA, you will need the following:

  • A Teaching Assistant qualification e.g. CACHE Level 1, 2 or 3
  • Experience working with EAL
  • Recent experience working within a UK based Secondary School.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, other members of teaching staff and senior management.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills, as well as possessing the ability to remain calm under pressure.

You will be working with pupil’s from YR7 to YR11. Some of the students have limited communication skills, therefore experience of working with students who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) would be advantageous.

The school is a GOOD school and although larger than the average high school they have a limited amount of EAL and SEND within the school. The students are very well behaved and enjoy school however you will need to be able to work under your own initiative, have emotional intelligence, be mindful of your own communication skills and body language, and above all, have the ability to multitask whilst bringing energy and enthusiasm to the role.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Will hold a Level 3 Teaching & Learning Qualification or Childcare
  • An enhanced DBS registered with the update service or be prepared to apply for a new one
  • Have good experience of working with EHCP’s
  • PECS, Makaton or other communication tools would be advantageous
  • ICT literate including word processing, internet and intranet
  • To be willing to be flexible and adapt as priorities change throughout the year

The role will involve working on a 'one to one' basis with a year 4 child who is on the Autistic Spectrum, in an attempt to ensure that they receive efficient support within the classroom. A typical day within the role will involve: - Providing general support to the class teacher. - Working 1:1 with a child throughout their school day. - Liaising closely with the schools SENCO on the child’s progress. - Providing feedback to the child's parents. The ideal candidate will: - Be a UK graduate OR hold a CACHE Level 3 qualification. - Have experience in the field of SEN (particularly ASD) - Have a passion for raising attainment within Primary education. - Be able to provide 2 references within the last 2 years. - Have a valid DBS on the DBS Update Service/ or be willing to apply for one.
