Are you a Psychology Graduate in Manchester looking to gain hands-on experience working with young people with SEMH, Autism, or additional needs?
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a specialist school or alternative provision where you’ll develop real-world skills that directly support careers in:
- Educational Psychology
- Clinical Psychology

- Youth Work / Mental Health Support
You’ll be working in environments where behaviour is supported properly, staff are experienced, and you’re part of a team, not left to manage things alone.
About the Role – Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and SEN needs
- Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement
- Use de-escalation and restorative approaches
- Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils
- Support delivery of tailored learning alongside the class teacher
- Monitor progress and contribute to support strategies
You’ll be working with pupils who may be disengaged from education, so your ability to build trust and remain calm is key.
Why These Schools?
- Structured environments with clear behaviour systems
- Strong focus on pastoral care and emotional wellbeing
- Supportive teams including SENCOs, pastoral leads, and experienced staff
- Opportunities across SEN schools, alternative provisions, and mainstream settings
- A chance to gain meaningful experience that actually builds your CV
What We’re Looking For
- A degree in Psychology or a related field
- Genuine interest in working with SEMH, SEN, or vulnerable young people
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Willingness to learn and develop in a school setting
Previous experience is beneficial but not essential — your attitude, resilience, and ability to engage young people are what matter most.
Why Work with GSL Education Manchester?
- 12+ years supporting graduates into education roles
- Opportunities that often lead to teacher training or permanent roles
- Access to a wide network of schools and specialist provisions
