Job description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated, patient and proactive SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in KS1 at a warm and welcoming primary school in Loughton. This long-term role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive both academically and emotionally.

The Role

  • Provide focused 1-1 support for a KS1 pupil with Special Educational Needs, ensuring they feel safe, understood and fully included in school life.

  • Assist with personalised learning activities, adapting tasks under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.

  • Help the child develop confidence, independence and social skills through consistent and nurturing support.

  • Use positive behaviour strategies and build strong, trusting relationships.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and external professionals to ensure the child’s needs are met each day.

  • Encourage engagement, celebrate progress and support the pupil through challenges and transitions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEN (Autism, communication needs or similar).

  • A calm, caring and patient approach with a genuine desire to make a difference.

  • Reliability, commitment and the ability to form positive relationships quickly.

  • Strong communication skills and a flexible, team-focused attitude.

  • Availability for a full-time, long-term position starting January.
