Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Grantham
Pay: £90 – £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term; Full-Time / Part-Time

GSL Education are seeking a committed and patient Behaviour Support Assistant to work at a supportive and specialist SEMH school in Grantham. This school provides a structured and nurturing setting for children and young people who require tailored behavioural and emotional support to succeed in their learning journey.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who exhibit challenging behaviours due to underlying social, emotional, or mental health needs. Your role will involve building strong relationships, providing calm and consistent support, and helping students to develop positive behaviour strategies.

Responsibilities of a Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Support students on a one-to-one or small group basis in managing their behaviour and engaging in lessons
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behaviour plans and support strategies
  • Help de-escalate situations using recognised techniques and a calm, supportive approach
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to deliver personalised interventions
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to staff
  • Foster an environment of respect, encouragement, and safety for all pupils

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural difficulties as a Behaviour Support Assistant or similar is highly desirable
  • A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or similar
  • Understanding of social-emotional and mental health challenges, trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches, or Team Teach training (or willingness to undergo training)
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and assertive in challenging situations
  • A patient and empathetic personality with a genuine interest in supporting young people
  • Hold an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for one
