Food Technician
Location: Kensington and Chelsea
Salary: £100 - £130 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Long-Term

Are you a proactive and skilled Food Technician looking to work in high-achieving secondary schools?

GSL Education are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Food Technician to support vibrant Food Technology departments across schools in Kensington and Chelsea from September 2025.

About the role:

This is a vital support position within secondary school Food Technology departments. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing practical lessons, maintaining kitchen safety and hygiene, and supporting students during cooking activities. The role offers a long-term opportunity to become an integral part of a high-performing team.

Responsibilities of a Food Technician:

  • Prepare and set up materials and ingredients for practical Food Technology lessons in line with lesson plans.
  • Ensure that all equipment and workspaces are cleaned, maintained, and stored in accordance with health and safety and food hygiene regulations.
  • Support teaching staff and students during practical cooking lessons, ensuring students follow safety protocols.
  • Manage stock control and place orders for food supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Carry out daily checks on equipment, report faults, and coordinate minor repairs with the facilities team.
  • Ensure correct storage, rotation, and disposal of perishable goods.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to students when required.
  • Ensure risk assessments are followed and all equipment is operated safely.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of inventory and ingredient usage

Food Technician Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Food Technician or in a similar role in a secondary school setting is preferred.
  • Food hygiene and safety training (Level 2 or 3).
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe working practices in a food/kitchen environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage stock and equipment effectively.
  • An understanding of safeguarding policies within secondary schools.
  • A proactive, positive attitude with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hold an updated CV and an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
