School Caretaker – Scunthorpe

Location: Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm

GSL Education is seeking a reliable and practical Caretaker to support a school in Scunthorpe.

Are you an experienced caretaker, site assistant, facilities worker, or someone with strong practical skills looking for a temporary opportunity? GSL Education is looking for a School Caretaker to help maintain the security, safety, and smooth day-to-day running of a school site in Scunthorpe.

Working Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, you will be responsible for a range of practical, security, and site-related duties, helping to ensure the school remains safe, secure, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage site security, including locking and unlocking gates and access points.
  • Carry out general porterage duties around the school site.
  • Complete small DIY repairs and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure contractors working on site follow the school's policies and procedures.
  • Carry out cleaning and tidying duties when required.
  • Respond appropriately to fire alarm activations when necessary.
  • Complete weekly compliance and site safety checks.
  • Report maintenance, security, or health and safety concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming school environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, site management, or a similar practical role is desirable.
  • Good basic DIY and maintenance skills.
  • A reliable and responsible approach to work.
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Good awareness of health and safety and site security.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A flexible approach and willingness to assist with a variety of site duties.
  • Previous experience within a school or education setting would be advantageous.
