Job description
Are you a compassionate and committed individual with a passion for supporting young people’s emotional and educational development? GSL Education is proud to be working with a nurturing alternative learning school in West Hull, and we’re currently seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to join the team this September.
This full-time opportunity is ideal for psychology graduates or individuals with a background or strong interest in child psychology, SEN, or pastoral support. You’ll be working closely with students across KS2, KS3, and KS4 who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These pupils thrive in a calm and consistent environment, and although they may need additional emotional and academic support, they do not display challenging behaviour.
This is more than just a support role – it’s a chance to be a vital part of a supportive school community that focuses on connection, trust, and personal growth. If you’re empathetic, emotionally intelligent, and passionate about making a difference, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Provide academic and emotional support to students with SEMH needs, either in small groups or 1:1.
-
Assist with tailored learning programs and therapeutic interventions to enhance emotional wellbeing and engagement.
-
Build trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive and consistent role model.
-
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral leads, and SEN professionals to support students’ individual development plans.
-
Monitor and report on student progress, contributing to their personal and educational growth.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
-
A calm, nurturing, and non-judgemental approach to working with young people.
-
Experience or interest in working with children with SEMH needs or in a similar pastoral role.
-
A background in psychology, education, or youth work is highly desirable.
-
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
-
The ability to commit to a full-time role and travel to West Hull daily.
-
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Important Notice:
This role requires a sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection. All successful applicants will be subject to safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
