Job Title: Functional Skills (ASDAN teacher)

Salary: £130 – £190 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are looking to recruit a committed Functional Skills Teacher to join a school provision in Grimsby. This rewarding role involves teaching small classes of pupils who present with a range of learning barriers linked to social, emotional, and cognitive difficulties.
Role Overview
As a Functional Skills Teacher (ASDAN Teacher), you will plan and deliver engaging, practical lessons in maths and English, ensuring each learner makes measurable progress towards nationally recognised qualifications. Working closely with support staff and therapists, you will create an inclusive environment that nurtures confidence, independence, and employability skills.
Role Responsibilities
- Design and deliver differentiated Functional Skills maths and English lessons.
- Adapt Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) resources to meet individual targets.
- Use positive-behaviour approaches to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
- Track, assess, and report on student progress, adjusting interventions where necessary.
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to share successes and next steps.
- Uphold high standards of safeguarding, well-being, and inclusion at all times.
Requirements for Functional Skills Teacher (ASDAN Teacher)
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experienced Functional Skills Teacher with proven success in SEN or alternative provision.
- Strong understanding of strategies for engaging learners with complex needs.
- Skilled in behaviour de-escalation and trauma-informed practice.
- Excellent teamwork, organisation, and communication skills.
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years with any gaps explained) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
