Job Title: ASD Teaching Assistant (TA)

Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

A welcoming school is seeking a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant in Dorchester to join their team and support students with additional needs in both academic and social development.
The School: The school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post 16 life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide tailored support to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are educated outside mainstream settings, fostering a safe and understanding learning environment.
- Assist in delivering vocational and extracurricular activities that help students develop practical, functional, and life skills.
- Support students across both primary and secondary divisions, adapting approaches to meet diverse age groups and abilities.
- Encourage positive social interaction, communication, and independence, helping pupils prepare for life beyond school.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to implement personalised learning plans that address individual needs.
- Monitor and document student progress and behaviour, contributing to regular reviews and adjustments of support strategies.
Candidate Expectations:
- Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an alternative education setting.
- Ability to work effectively across both primary and secondary age groups, adapting to different developmental needs.
- Skilled in facilitating vocational and extracurricular activities that promote functional and life skills.
- Commitment to providing inclusive education tailored to pupils with diverse abilities and learning needs.
- Strong understanding of strategies to support pupils who are outside mainstream education, fostering engagement and progress.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across two sites and with a multidisciplinary team focused on post-16 outcomes.
- Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
