Do you have a passion for guiding and uplifting students, helping them unlock their true potential? GSL Education are excited to invite a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming school in Dorchester.
About the role: As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting students in achieving their educational goals.
The School: The school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post 16 life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support students who have experienced challenges in mainstream education, helping them engage positively with vocational and extracurricular learning opportunities.
- Implement and reinforce individual behaviour support plans, promoting functional and life skills development in line with the school’s inclusive ethos.
- Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction across both primary and secondary age groups, fostering respect and cooperation.
- Provide consistent support to create a safe and nurturing environment, enabling students to build confidence and prepare for post-16 life.
- Observe, monitor, and document behaviour patterns, sharing insights with teachers and the wider support team to inform tailored interventions.
- Collaborate with staff, families, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach that supports each pupil’s holistic development and educational progress.
Candidate Expectations:
- Experience working in alternative or vocational education settings, supporting children outside mainstream schooling.
- Ability to support a wide age range, from primary through secondary students, with diverse abilities and needs.
- Skilled in promoting functional and life skills through both educational and extracurricular activities.
- Strong commitment to inclusivity and providing tailored support to help pupils reach their full potential.
- Capacity to contribute to a positive and supportive environment that prepares students for post-16 opportunities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively across the school’s two sites and with diverse staff.
- Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
