Specialist 1:2:1 Learning Support Assistant

The Role: We are seeking to expand its team by hiring a dedicated and skilled Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide specialized 1:2:1 support to an individual learner with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Type 1 diabetes. The successful candidate will work closely with one learner for a significant part of the school day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gain understanding of the learner's individual needs and implement necessary provisions.
  • Ensure effective implementation of specific SEND provision and interventions under the guidance of teaching staff and the SENDCo.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and the SENDCo to monitor the learner's progress through effective communication.
  • Provide consistent support for a learner with complex SEND needs, including Type 1 diabetes, following Individual Health Care Plans (IHCP).
  • Maintain clear record-keeping to monitor medical needs outlined within the IHCP.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and contribute to progress meetings.
  • Promote positive behavior, raise esteem, and encourage an aspirational culture.
  • Foster independent learning skills.
  • Tailor additional duties to need, aligning with the applicant's skill set and the direction of the Headteacher.
Requirements:
  • Successful recent experience of working with children in an educational setting.
  • Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Experience in supporting students with complex medical needs (including T1 diabetes), or willingness to undertake training and follow IHCP requirements.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in working with learners with Autism and other neurodiverse conditions.
