Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Salary: £149 Per Day
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant ready to take on greater responsibility in supporting teaching and learning? Do you have the confidence to lead learning activities, manage classroom behaviour and help pupils make meaningful progress?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work in a secondary school in York. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and proactive education professional who can support teachers, deliver planned learning activities and provide targeted assistance to pupils with a range of learning needs. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining high standards of learning, promoting pupil independence and ensuring continuity in the classroom.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Role:
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support lesson delivery, lead learning activities and help pupils achieve their learning objectives. You may be required to lead classes during teachers’ planned or unplanned absences, deliver interventions and adapt activities to meet pupils’ needs. Your experience, initiative and strong classroom management skills will help create a positive and productive learning environment.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Deliver planned lessons and learning activities to individuals, small groups or whole classes as required.
- Support teachers with lesson preparation, resource development and the implementation of learning strategies.
- Monitor pupils’ progress, assess understanding and provide constructive feedback to support improvement.
- Maintain positive classroom behaviour and encourage pupils to participate actively in their learning.
- Provide targeted interventions and adapt activities to support pupils with different abilities and learning needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to promote inclusion, pupil wellbeing and academic progress.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- A relevant HLTA qualification or substantial experience in a senior Teaching Assistant role.
- Proven experience supporting teaching and learning in a school or similar educational setting.
- Confidence in leading classroom activities and managing pupil behaviour effectively.
- Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently when required.
- A proactive, adaptable and professional approach, with a commitment to high expectations and positive pupil outcomes.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
