Job Title: Advance Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant ready to take the next step in your career? GSL Education Hull Branch are looking for a confident and dedicated Advanced Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a school setting in York.
This role is suited to an experienced education professional who can work independently, provide targeted learning support and help pupils overcome barriers to learning. You will work closely with teachers to deliver interventions, support classroom activities and promote pupils’ academic, social and emotional development. The successful candidate should be confident taking responsibility for supporting individuals and small groups while contributing to a positive learning environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils make progress with their learning.
- Deliver planned interventions and adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
- Work closely with teachers to prepare resources and support effective classroom learning.
- Take responsibility for supporting pupils or groups independently when required.
- Monitor pupils’ progress, engagement and behaviour, sharing observations with teaching staff.
- Support and guide less experienced Teaching Assistants where appropriate, promoting consistent support across the classroom.
Minimum Requirements
- Substantial experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or in a similar school-based role.
- A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is desirable.
- Experience delivering interventions and supporting pupils with different learning needs.
- Strong communication, organisation and classroom management skills.
- Proactive, reliable and confident working independently as well as part of a team.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
