GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in York. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is confident supporting pupils with SEN, SEND, and SEMH needs and can provide patient, consistent support in a structured learning environment.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and support staff to provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support. You will help pupils manage barriers to learning, develop positive relationships, regulate their emotions, and engage more confidently with their education.

Core Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN, SEND, and SEMH needs.
  • Assist pupils with accessing learning activities and developing greater confidence and independence.
  • Support emotional regulation, communication, social development, and positive behaviour.
  • Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear, consistent, and professional boundaries.
  • Adapt your approach to meet individual learning, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs.
  • Work closely with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and provide consistent support.

As the Ideal Learning Support Assistant, You Should Have

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEND, SEMH, or additional needs.
  • An understanding of needs such as Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain composed and consistent when supporting challenging or changing situations.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and develop confidence and independence.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
