Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist educational setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, who can provide consistent, personalised support and help learners engage positively with education.
SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide targeted support to pupils with a range of SEN needs. You will help pupils access learning, manage challenges and develop their communication, social and emotional skills within a calm and structured environment.
SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEN and additional learning needs.
- Assist teachers with differentiated lessons, classroom activities and personalised learning tasks.
- Support pupils with communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs in a calm and consistent manner.
- Build positive relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries and encouraging positive behaviour.
- Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Monitor pupils’ engagement and progress and share relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team.
SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEND or additional learning needs is desirable.
- Experience working with pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties or learning difficulties would be advantageous.
- Patient, resilient and nurturing approach, with the ability to remain calm when supporting challenging situations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to adapt support to individual needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider team and follow individual learning, behaviour and support strategies.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
