GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support a student with a hearing impairment within a secondary school setting in York. This is a 4-day-per-week opportunity for a patient, attentive, and supportive individual who can provide consistent one-to-one assistance and help the student access their education confidently.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with the student and teaching staff to provide tailored support throughout the school day. You will help the student follow lessons, access learning materials, participate in classroom activities, and develop greater confidence and independence.

Core Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a student with a hearing impairment throughout the school day.
  • Support the student to access lessons, instructions, resources, and classroom activities effectively.
  • Use appropriate communication and support strategies to meet the student’s individual needs.
  • Encourage confidence, independence, participation, and positive engagement with learning.
  • Work closely with teachers and wider school staff to ensure consistent and effective support.
  • Monitor the student’s engagement and progress and communicate relevant information to teaching staff.

As the Ideal Learning Support Assistant, You Should Have

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs is desirable.
  • Experience supporting a student with a hearing impairment, or an understanding of hearing-related needs, would be advantageous.
  • A patient, attentive, and empathetic approach to individualised support.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to adapt your approach to meet the student’s specific needs.
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people develop confidence, independence, and positive learning experiences.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
