Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs and helping them feel more confident in the classroom? A supportive school in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team.
About the Role:
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide practical and emotional support to pupils who may face challenges with behaviour, engagement, communication or emotional regulation. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to help pupils manage barriers to learning, stay engaged with lessons and develop positive relationships within school.

Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

Help pupils manage emotions, behaviour and barriers to learning.

Support teachers with classroom activities and pupil engagement.

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

Encourage positive behaviour and appropriate communication.

Help maintain a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

Share relevant observations and feedback with teachers and pastoral staff.
Requirements:
-
Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Experience supporting SEMH, behaviour or additional needs is advantageous.

A calm, patient and consistent approach.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to remain composed when supporting challenging situations.

A genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.

Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
To work with GSL Education as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you should:

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
