Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident supporting young people with behaviour and helping them stay engaged in their learning? A welcoming secondary school in Sheffield is looking for a committed Behaviour Support Assistant to join its team.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students who may need additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement. Your day will involve supporting students across different lessons and departments, helping with transitions between classes and encouraging positive participation in learning.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can provide consistent, calm support while helping secondary-aged students develop greater confidence and independence.

Responsibilities:

Provide individual and small-group support to students with behavioural and emotional needs.

Work alongside subject teachers to maintain a positive and focused classroom environment.

Support students during lessons, transitions and less structured parts of the school day.

Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and participation in learning.

Help students develop strategies for managing their behaviour and emotions.

Build positive, professional relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries.

Communicate relevant observations and concerns to teachers and pastoral staff.
Requirements:

Previous experience supporting children or young people is desirable.

Experience working with challenging behaviour or additional needs is advantageous.

A calm, patient and consistent approach.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to establish appropriate professional boundaries with adolescent learners.

Confidence working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral teams.

A genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
