Job Title: Graduates looking to Teach

Salary: £500 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you a graduate considering a career in teaching and looking to gain valuable classroom experience? A welcoming secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a confident Graduate Cover Supervisor to support pupils and lead lessons in the absence of their usual teacher.

About the Role:

As a Graduate Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for supervising classes and delivering pre-prepared lesson work across different subjects. This is a great opportunity for graduates who are considering teaching, giving you first-hand classroom experience while developing your confidence in managing pupils and leading lessons.

You’ll work closely with teaching staff to maintain a positive learning environment and ensure pupils remain engaged and focused throughout lessons.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes and deliver pre-prepared lesson materials in the absence of the usual teacher.
  • Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a calm, focused learning environment.
  • Support pupils with their work and encourage positive participation.
  • Follow lesson plans and ensure learning activities are completed effectively.
  • Work alongside teaching staff and provide feedback where appropriate.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils.

Requirements:

  • A degree or relevant graduate-level qualification.
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in teaching.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils.
  • A calm, adaptable and professional approach.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
