Qualified Teaching Assistant – Newcastle upon Tyne

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £90–£120 per day, dependent on experience
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible

A welcoming and supportive school in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Qualified Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils to achieve their academic, social and personal potential.

As a Qualified Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide high-quality classroom support, helping pupils engage positively with their learning and develop confidence and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective classroom support to pupils across the curriculum.

  • Work on a 1:1 and small-group basis, including supporting pupils with additional needs.

  • Assist teachers with lesson activities, learning resources and classroom preparation.

  • Support literacy, numeracy and targeted learning interventions.

  • Provide positive support for pupils with SEND, ASD, ADHD and SEMH needs.

  • Promote positive behaviour and help pupils remain focused and engaged.

  • Support pupils with behaviours that challenge using appropriate behaviour-management and de-escalation strategies.

  • Encourage pupils' confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to meet individual pupil needs.

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

The Ideal Qualified Teaching Assistant Will Have

  • A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification, such as Level 2 or Level 3.

  • Previous experience working within a school or educational setting.

  • Experience supporting children with SEND or additional learning needs.

  • Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support.

  • Strong communication, patience and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.

  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH or behaviours that challenge would be highly advantageous.

  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA would be an added advantage.

  • A calm, resilient and adaptable approach.

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

  • A fully checkable employment and reference history.
