Qualified Teaching Assistant – Newcastle upon Tyne
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £90–£120 per day, dependent on experience
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible
A welcoming and supportive school in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Qualified Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils to achieve their academic, social and personal potential.
As a Qualified Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide high-quality classroom support, helping pupils engage positively with their learning and develop confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities

Provide effective classroom support to pupils across the curriculum.

Work on a 1:1 and small-group basis, including supporting pupils with additional needs.

Assist teachers with lesson activities, learning resources and classroom preparation.

Support literacy, numeracy and targeted learning interventions.

Provide positive support for pupils with SEND, ASD, ADHD and SEMH needs.

Promote positive behaviour and help pupils remain focused and engaged.

Support pupils with behaviours that challenge using appropriate behaviour-management and de-escalation strategies.

Encourage pupils' confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.

Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to meet individual pupil needs.

Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
The Ideal Qualified Teaching Assistant Will Have
-
A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification, such as Level 2 or Level 3.

Previous experience working within a school or educational setting.

Experience supporting children with SEND or additional learning needs.

Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support.

Strong communication, patience and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.

Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH or behaviours that challenge would be highly advantageous.

Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA would be an added advantage.

A calm, resilient and adaptable approach.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
