Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Isolation Room Manager

Location: Boston, Lincolnshire
Salary: £110 – £130 per day, depending on experience
Start Date: Asap
Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term

GSL Education is seeking an experienced HLTA to manage an Isolation Room within a mainstream secondary school in Boston.

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, HLTA or education professional with strong behaviour management skills? Can you confidently manage challenging situations while maintaining a calm, fair and supportive approach?

GSL Education is looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of an Isolation Room within a secondary school in Boston.

This is an important role within the school's behaviour support system. You will provide a structured and purposeful environment for students who have been removed from lessons, ensuring expectations are maintained while helping pupils reflect on their behaviour and prepare to return successfully to the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the effective running of the Isolation Room.
  • Supervise students and maintain a calm, purposeful environment.
  • Reinforce the school's behaviour expectations and values consistently.
  • Support students in completing appropriate work while in isolation.
  • Manage challenging behaviour using effective de-escalation strategies.
  • Hold restorative conversations with students where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of students attending the room and monitor recurring patterns.
  • Liaise with teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders regarding student behaviour.
  • Communicate with parents or carers when required.
  • Support students with their successful reintegration into lessons and school routines.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding, SEND and welfare concerns.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people in a school or education setting is essential.
  • Previous HLTA, behaviour support, pastoral or similar experience is highly desirable.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour and maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Able to de-escalate difficult situations calmly and professionally.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Organised and confident maintaining accurate records.
  • Able to work effectively with teachers, pastoral teams and senior leadership.
  • A relevant qualification or training in behaviour management, education, youth work or a related area would be advantageous.
