Contract: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary: £92-£115 Per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within schools in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them achieve their full potential.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may experience emotional, behavioural, or social challenges that can affect their learning. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create a calm, supportive environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and encouraged to engage with education.
Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and positive social skills.
- Support classroom learning by helping pupils overcome barriers to engagement and participation.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent, calm, and supportive approaches.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils and encourage their personal and academic development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support individual needs.
As the Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach when working in challenging situations.
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
- The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- A flexible approach and the ability to adapt support to individual needs.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and succeed in education.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Provide an up-to-date CV and references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
