GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a confident, experienced, and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work across primary and secondary schools in York.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant looking to take on greater responsibility within the classroom. As an HLTA, you will work closely with teachers and wider school staff, supporting high-quality learning and, where required, leading classes or delivering planned lessons.

About the Role:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You may work with individual pupils, small groups, or whole classes, helping to deliver targeted interventions and maintain continuity of learning during teacher absence.

Core Responsibilities of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant:

  • Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging learning activities
  • Lead small-group interventions and provide targeted support to pupils with varying abilities
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and supervise whole classes when required
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs, including those with SEND
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide relevant feedback to teachers and the wider support team
  • Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment

As the Ideal Higher Level Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a school or educational setting
  • A recognised HLTA qualification or relevant Level 4 qualification is desirable
  • Confidence leading small groups and supervising whole classes independently
  • Good understanding of the curriculum and effective strategies for supporting learning
  • Strong communication, organisation, and behaviour management skills
  • A proactive, adaptable, and committed approach to supporting pupils' progress and wellbeing

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people within an educational setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
