Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking patient and understanding SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in excellent schools across Sheffield. We would like to hear from individuals who can build trusting relationships with young people, respond positively to challenging situations, and help learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs take part in their education.
The Social, Emotional and Mental Health TA provides focused support to students who may experience emotional, social, or behavioural difficulties, helping them feel settled and become more engaged with learning.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support during lessons
- Help students recognise and manage difficult emotions
- Encourage learners to develop positive behaviour and coping strategies
- Support young people who find classroom routines or activities challenging
- Build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
- Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to follow individual support plans
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs in a school or similar setting
- Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Ability to remain calm when dealing with challenging situations
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Patient, reliable, and able to provide consistent support
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
