SEMH Teaching Assistant – Grantham

GSL Education is looking for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Grantham. This is a full-time supply role, with the opportunity to become long-term or permanent for the right candidate.

You will work with primary and secondary-aged students who have behavioural needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, providing consistent support to help them succeed both academically and personally.

The Role

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis.

  • Help students manage their emotions, behaviour and engagement.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Support students to access learning and develop their confidence and independence.

  • Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement.

  • Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral/SEN team.

  • Provide a calm, consistent and nurturing presence throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Available full-time, Monday–Friday.

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.

  • Patient, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour.

  • Able to build strong and positive relationships with pupils.

  • Calm under pressure and able to maintain consistent boundaries.

  • A strong communicator and team player.

  • Previous experience supporting SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable but not essential.
