Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are keen to hear from caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in welcoming schools across Sheffield. We are looking for individuals who can build positive relationships with young people and provide practical support to those experiencing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
The Social, Emotional and Mental Health TA helps learners manage their emotions, take part in classroom activities, and develop positive ways to deal with challenges at school.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support during lessons and school activities
- Help students recognise and manage difficult emotions in a positive way
- Use agreed strategies to respond calmly to challenging behaviour
- Encourage young people to take part in learning and build confidence
- Support daily routines and transitions to create greater consistency
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to share progress and concerns
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs in a school or similar setting
- Understanding of behaviour support and positive ways to manage difficult situations
- Patient and consistent approach when working with learners
- Ability to build trust while maintaining professional boundaries
- Good communication, teamwork, and observation skills
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
