Job Title: SEMH Support Worker
Location: Newcastle
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are recruiting committed SEMH Support Worker to support pupils in schools across Newcastle. This role is suited to individuals who can build trusting relationships with young people experiencing social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. Working alongside teaching and pastoral teams, you will help student manage emotions, improve engagement, and develop positive strategies for navigating school life.
The Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Support Worker role has the ability to provide consistent emotional and practical support, helping pupils strengthen self-regulation, build positive relationships, and participate more confidently in their education.
SEMH Support Worker Responsibilities:
- Establish supportive relationships with pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation or engagement
- Provide individual guidance during periods of anxiety, frustration, or challenging behaviour
- Use agreed de-escalation techniques to help pupils manage difficult situations safely
- Encourage positive routines and coping strategies that promote greater independence
- Support reintegration into lessons following behavioural or emotional incidents
- Share relevant observations with pastoral and teaching teams to inform ongoing pupil support
SEMH Support Worker Requirements:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional needs in a school setting or similar
- Calm and consistent approach when responding to emotionally demanding situations
- Ability to recognise individual triggers and respond with appropriate support strategies
- Strong relationship-building skills while maintaining clear professional boundaries
- Resilient and adaptable approach with a commitment to pupil wellbeing
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
