Job Title: Behaviour Mentor
Location: Newcastle
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking confident and approachable Behaviour Mentor to work with pupils in schools across Newcastle. We want someone who can connect with young people, understand the reasons behind challenging behaviour, and provide constructive guidance. Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff, you will encourage pupils to make positive choices, improve their engagement, and take greater responsibility for their behaviour.
The Behaviour Mentor provides structured mentoring and practical support, helping pupils develop self-awareness, improve relationships, and establish behaviours that contribute to successful learning.
Behaviour Mentor Responsibilities:
- Mentor pupils individually to identify behavioural challenges and establish realistic improvement goals
- Encourage pupils to reflect on their choices and understand how their actions affect themselves and others
- Introduce practical strategies for managing frustration, conflict, and difficult classroom situations
- Recognise positive changes and reinforce progress through consistent encouragement
- Support pupils during unstructured periods where behavioural difficulties may be more likely to occur
- Communicate with teachers and pastoral staff to ensure a consistent approach to individual behaviour plans
Behaviour Mentor Requirements:
- Experience in mentoring, youth work, behaviour support, education, or a related setting
- Confident approach to engaging young people who may display challenging behaviour
- Good understanding of positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to establish trust while maintaining clear and appropriate professional boundaries
- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
