Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you an experienced and compassionate Mental Health Practitioner looking to support young people in overcoming barriers to learning and wellbeing?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for Mental Health Practitioners to work within a specialist and supportive educational setting in York. We are looking for caring, resilient, and dedicated professionals who are passionate about promoting positive mental health, supporting emotional wellbeing, and helping students develop the confidence and resilience to succeed.
Mental Health Practitioner Role:
The successful Mental Health Practitioner will work as part of a multidisciplinary support team, providing targeted interventions for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. We are looking to recruit a Mental Health Practitioner who can build trusted relationships, deliver effective wellbeing support, and work collaboratively with education staff to create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Mental Health Practitioner Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group emotional wellbeing support for students with mental health and additional needs
- Develop and implement appropriate support strategies to improve engagement, resilience, and emotional regulation
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and families to support individual student wellbeing plans
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
- Promote positive mental health, self-esteem, and healthy coping strategies throughout the school community
- Liaise with external professionals and specialist services to ensure students receive appropriate support where required
Mental Health Practitioner Requirements:
- Previous experience working in mental health, psychology, counselling, youth work, social care, or a related support role
- Knowledge of supporting young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, trauma, or other additional needs is highly desirable
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- A calm, empathetic, resilient, and professional approach to supporting vulnerable young people
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and child protection procedures
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
