Job Title: Learning Support Assistant – SEMH Provision

Salary: £100 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)

Are you a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people?
GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Newcastle upon Tyne (NE15). This rewarding full-time role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with additional needs and helping them achieve both academically and personally.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in sport, coaching, fitness, youth work, or mentoring, as these skills can have a positive impact on students by promoting confidence, resilience, teamwork, and positive behaviour. Previous experience within education is welcomed but not essential.
Key Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant:
- Support students with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom.
- Build positive and trusting relationships that encourage confidence, engagement, and personal development.
- Work alongside teachers to deliver tailored learning activities and interventions.
- Support students with emotional regulation and the development of positive behaviours.
- Encourage participation in physical activities, enrichment sessions, and team-building opportunities where appropriate.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide the best support for every student.
Requirements for the Learning Support Assistant role:
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.
- A background in sport, coaching, fitness, youth work, or mentoring is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.
- A proactive and positive attitude towards supporting young people.
- A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
