Job Title: English Tutor – SEMH Provision
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, NE15
Salary: £125 – £145 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time
Are you a passionate English Tutor looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking a dedicated and compassionate English Tutor to join a specialist SEMH provision in Newcastle upon Tyne (NE15). This is an excellent opportunity to support students who benefit from an alternative approach to education, helping them build confidence, resilience, and essential literacy skills in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Whether you hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or have significant experience tutoring English, this rewarding role offers the chance to positively impact the educational journey of young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities of the English Tutor:
- Deliver engaging and personalised English lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet a range of learning abilities and emotional needs.
- Build positive and trusting relationships that encourage student engagement and progress.
- Support pupils in developing literacy, communication, and functional English skills.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed.
Requirements for the English Tutor role:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is preferred but not essential.
- Experience teaching or tutoring English at secondary level.
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting learners.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
