Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident leading a classroom and eager to support young people in their education? A welcoming secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a dependable Cover Supervisor to join their team from September 2026.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with the work that has been set. You will encourage positive behaviour, maintain a productive learning environment and support students across a range of subjects. This role is well suited to graduates, aspiring teachers or experienced education professionals who enjoy working with secondary-aged pupils.

Responsibilities:

Supervise lessons using pre-prepared work provided by teaching staff.

Maintain a calm, safe and purposeful classroom environment.

Encourage students to remain engaged and complete the tasks set.

Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.

Record attendance and provide lesson feedback to teaching staff.

Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote student progress.
Requirements:
-
Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Strong classroom management and communication skills.

Confidence supervising groups of secondary-aged students.

A calm, organised and adaptable approach.

The ability to work independently while following school procedures.

An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through GSL Education.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
