Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident leading a classroom and eager to support young people in their education? A welcoming secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a dependable Cover Supervisor to join their team from September 2026.

About the Role:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with the work that has been set. You will encourage positive behaviour, maintain a productive learning environment and support students across a range of subjects. This role is well suited to graduates, aspiring teachers or experienced education professionals who enjoy working with secondary-aged pupils.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise lessons using pre-prepared work provided by teaching staff.

  • Maintain a calm, safe and purposeful classroom environment.

  • Encourage students to remain engaged and complete the tasks set.

  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.

  • Record attendance and provide lesson feedback to teaching staff.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote student progress.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.

  • Confidence supervising groups of secondary-aged students.

  • A calm, organised and adaptable approach.

  • The ability to work independently while following school procedures.

  • An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through GSL Education.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
