Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire branch are recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants for supportive schools across Sheffield. We welcome applications from patient and committed individuals who can build positive relationships with pupils, promote emotional wellbeing, and help students overcome barriers to learning.
The SEMH Teaching Assistant will have a rewarding opportunity to provide tailored support that encourages pupils to develop confidence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Encourage positive behaviour through consistent guidance and effective support strategies
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and inclusive classroom activities
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, communication, and social skills
- Work closely with school staff, parents, and external professionals to support pupil progress
- Promote a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable
- Good understanding of behaviour management and trauma-informed approaches
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in challenging situations
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Genuine commitment to supporting pupils' wellbeing and educational progress
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
