About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide tailored support for students with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will offer one-to-one and small-group support, encourage positive engagement in learning and help create a calm, structured classroom environment where pupils feel safe, valued and ready to succeed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH needs.

  • Work alongside teachers to encourage positive behaviour and classroom engagement.

  • Help students develop confidence, resilience and effective coping strategies.

  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions and other school activities.

  • Maintain a safe, calm and structured learning environment.

  • Share relevant observations and progress updates with the wider school team.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Experience supporting students with SEMH or additional needs is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A patient, calm and resilient approach.

  • The ability to build positive, professional relationships with students.

  • A genuine commitment to helping young people succeed in education.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
