Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

A welcoming school in Rotherham is seeking a dedicated Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to join their team from September 2026. This is a school-based classroom support role where your background in sport will help you encourage positive behaviour, build confidence and support students with their learning. While your coaching experience is highly valued, your primary responsibility will be supporting pupils within the classroom rather than delivering sports sessions.
About the Role:
As a Sports Coach / Learning Support member of staff, you will work alongside teachers to support students throughout the school day. Your role may include providing classroom support, assisting students with SEN, offering behaviour support, supervising lessons during teacher absence and helping pupils stay engaged with their learning. The communication, resilience and behaviour management skills gained through coaching are highly transferable and will be key to your success in this education-based role.

Responsibilities:

Provide classroom support for individual students and small groups.

Assist teachers in delivering engaging learning activities.

Support positive behaviour and encourage participation during lessons.

Provide additional support for pupils with SEN where required.

Carry out cover supervision when needed.

Help maintain a safe, organised and welcoming learning environment.
Requirements:
-
Experience in sports coaching, fitness or youth coaching with skills that transfer well into education.

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

A calm, patient and adaptable approach.

Confidence supporting behaviour management within a classroom setting.

A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
