Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time, long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately
Are you confident managing groups of young people and keeping learning on track in a busy classroom environment? A range of secondary schools in Barnsley are seeking a reliable and adaptable Cover Supervisor to step into lessons and ensure continuity of learning across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Staff work collaboratively to maintain a calm and purposeful environment where students are encouraged to stay focused and engaged, even when their regular teacher is not present.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during teacher absence, ensuring students remain on task with pre-set work. You will play a key role in maintaining classroom order, supporting learning routines and creating a structured environment across a variety of subjects.
Responsibilities:

Supervise classes in the absence of the teacher and ensure learning continues

Support students in completing pre-set work and staying focused

Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies

Maintain a calm, structured and productive learning environment

Provide clear instructions and keep students engaged in tasks

Report any concerns or incidents to relevant staff

Follow safeguarding procedures and school expectations at all times
Requirements:

Experience working with young people is desirable

Strong communication and behaviour management skills

Confident, calm and professional approach

Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom settings

Reliable, flexible and committed attitude

Genuine interest in supporting education and student progress
