GSL Education are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and motivated Sports Coach to work within schools across North Yorkshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals from sports, fitness, coaching, or physical activity backgrounds who are looking to apply their transferable skills within education. While the title is Sports Coach, the role is primarily school-based and involves supporting students both inside and outside the classroom, helping to promote positive behaviour, engagement, confidence, and learning.
Whether you have experience coaching sports teams, leading fitness sessions, mentoring young people, or working in community programmes, your ability to motivate, encourage, and build positive relationships can have a significant impact in a school environment.
About the Role:
As a Sports Coach, you will support students across a variety of educational settings, working alongside teachers and support staff to help learners engage positively with their education. You may provide classroom support, behaviour support, intervention work, cover supervision, and assistance for students with additional needs.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop valuable experience within education while making a meaningful difference to the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities of the Sports Coach:
- Support students within classrooms to encourage engagement and participation in learning
- Build positive relationships with learners and act as a positive role model
- Promote positive behaviour and support students in meeting school expectations
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required
- Assist teachers in creating a productive and inclusive learning environment
- Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
- Help manage classroom activities and maintain a calm learning atmosphere
- Deliver mentoring and confidence-building support to students
- Assist with cover supervision duties when required
- Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to support student progress
As the Ideal Sports Coach, You Should Have:
- Experience in sports coaching, fitness instruction, youth work, mentoring, or a similar role
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence working with children and young people
- Ability to motivate, encourage, and engage learners from diverse backgrounds
- A calm, resilient, and proactive approach to behaviour management
- Strong teamwork and organisational skills
- A genuine interest in supporting young people's development and wellbeing
- Experience working with SEND or SEMH learners would be advantageous but is not essential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children, young people, or within coaching environments
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
