Cover Supervisor
Location: Selby, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92-£120 per day

GSL Education are currently searching for a confident and dependable Cover Supervisor to work within a secondary school setting in Selby and the surrounding areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, experienced teaching assistants, or individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in education. The role offers a rewarding chance to work directly with young people, supporting their learning and development while gaining valuable classroom management experience.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with the work provided and continue to make progress in their learning. You will be responsible for maintaining a calm, structured, and positive classroom environment while supporting students to stay focused and on task.
This role does not involve lesson planning, assessment, or marking. Instead, you will deliver pre-prepared work and ensure lessons run smoothly in the teacher’s absence.
Core Responsibilities of the Cover Supervisor:
- Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff
- Deliver pre-set work and instructions provided by classroom teachers
- Ensure students remain engaged, focused, and productive throughout lessons
- Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management
- Foster a positive and respectful learning environment
- Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student participation and behaviour
- Support the wider school community and assist with general duties where required
- Promote positive attitudes towards learning and personal responsibility
As the Ideal Cover Supervisor, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in a school, coaching, mentoring, tutoring, or youth work setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence managing groups of students in a classroom environment
- Good organisational and problem-solving abilities
- The ability to remain calm, adaptable, and professional under pressure
- A positive and proactive attitude towards supporting young people
- A degree or relevant qualification is advantageous but not essential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
