Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately
GSL Education is seeking motivated individuals with a sports or coaching background to support secondary school students across Sheffield. These roles are school-based and focus on learning support, behaviour guidance, cover supervision, and helping students stay engaged throughout the school day.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals from sport or fitness backgrounds to transition into education-based roles, where their communication, structure, and behaviour management skills can be applied in a classroom setting.
About the Role:
This Sports Coach / Learning Support role is not a sports coaching position in the traditional sense. Instead, you will be working within secondary schools supporting learning, supervising classes, and assisting with behaviour and engagement. Your sports background will be used for transferable strengths such as leadership, consistency, and the ability to motivate young people in structured environments.
Key Responsibilities:

Support teachers with classroom learning and behaviour management

Supervise classes as cover or learning support staff when required

Assist students to remain focused, engaged, and on task

Use coaching skills to encourage positive behaviour and participation

Support small group work, intervention sessions, or SEN support where needed

Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment

Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement
Requirements:

Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, or similar roles

Confident working with young people in a school-based setting

Strong communication and behaviour management skills

Adaptable, reliable, and professional approach

Ability to build positive relationships with secondary-aged students

Interest in developing a career within education
