Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a passionate and resilient Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant to work full time within a specialist educational setting in York.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, sports coaches, aspiring teachers, youth workers, or individuals with experience supporting children and young people who are looking to gain valuable experience within specialist education.

The role involves supporting students with a range of additional needs including SEMH, ASC, ADHD, communication difficulties, and behavioural challenges. Using sport, mentoring, and positive relationship-building, you will help students develop confidence, engagement, emotional regulation, and social skills throughout the school day.

About The Role as a Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant:

  • Support students within lessons, interventions, vocational activities, and practical sessions throughout the school day.
  • Use sports, coaching, and mentoring skills to promote positive behaviour, confidence, and engagement.
  • Build strong and supportive relationships with students to encourage personal development and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support teachers with classroom activities, behaviour management, and differentiated learning tasks.
  • Deliver small group and 1:1 intervention sessions where appropriate.
  • Support students with social, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities and practical learning opportunities across the school.

The Ideal Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant Will Have:

  • A background in sport, coaching, mentoring, youth work, education, or similar.
  • Experience working with children or young people, either professionally or voluntarily.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • The ability to build positive and professional relationships quickly.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable and hard-to-reach learners.
