Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant
Location:Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a passionate and energetic Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant to work full time within a specialist education setting in Scarborough.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, sports coaches, or individuals with experience working with children and young people who are looking to make a positive impact within education. The role is available to start in September 2026, although an earlier start may be available for the right candidate.
The position involves supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom, using sport, teamwork, and positive relationship-building to encourage engagement, confidence, emotional regulation, and personal development.
About The Role as a Sports Teaching Assistant:
- Support students within lessons, interventions, and practical activities across the school day.
- Use sports, coaching, and mentoring skills to promote positive behaviour, engagement, and wellbeing.
- Build strong relationships with pupils, supporting their social, emotional, and academic development.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities, behaviour support, and differentiated learning tasks.
- Support students with additional needs including SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and behavioural challenges.
- Deliver small group and 1:1 intervention sessions where appropriate.
- Help create a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment for all students.
- Support extracurricular activities, enrichment sessions, and physical activities across the school.
The Ideal Sports Teaching Assistant Will Have:
- A background in sport, coaching, youth work, education, mentoring, or similar.
- Experience working with children or young people, either professionally or voluntarily.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and behaviour management skills.
- A calm, resilient, and adaptable approach.
- The ability to build positive and professional relationships quickly.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential.
