Job Title: Learning Mentor

Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: June 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently welcoming applications from passionate Learning Mentors to work in a specialist school setting in York. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may have additional social, emotional, behavioural, or learning needs.
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with pupils to provide guidance, encouragement, and structured support, helping them re-engage with education and develop confidence both in and out of the classroom.

The school is a specialist provision that supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. It provides a nurturing and structured environment where staff work collaboratively to ensure every learner is given the opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and personally.
Key Responsibilities of Learning Mentor:
- Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring support to pupils.
- Support pupils in managing behaviour, emotions, and engagement in learning.
- Build strong, positive relationships to encourage trust and progress.
- Work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to deliver tailored support plans.
- Help pupils develop social skills, resilience, and self-confidence.
- Monitor and feedback on pupil progress and wellbeing.
Essential Requirements as a Learning Mentor:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a mentoring or support role.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional support strategies.
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to support pupils with a range of additional needs.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
