Job Title: Autism Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only

Start Date: June 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are searching for a committed Autism Support Assistant to join a specialist school in York. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is committed to supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and helping them access learning in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.

A specialist educational setting providing a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children and young people with additional needs receive personalised support to develop academically, socially, and emotionally at their own pace.

Core Responsibilities as an Autism Support Assistant:

  • Support students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in lessons and daily activities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs
  • Help implement individual learning and behaviour support plans
  • Encourage communication, independence, and social interaction
  • Support students in managing emotions and transitions throughout the school day
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to create a structured learning environment
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning

Autism Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism or additional needs
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow structured routines and support plans
  • A proactive and supportive attitude
  • A degree in Psychology or a related field is highly desirable
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
