About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Southampton.
This role will involve supporting a KS1 class teacher, helping to deliver engaging lessons and ensuring all pupils are supported in their learning and development.
You will work closely with the teacher to provide whole-class, small group, and 1:1 support, helping children build strong foundations in phonics, literacy, and numeracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the KS1 class teacher in delivering engaging lessons
- Provide classroom-based support in a mainstream primary setting
- Assist with phonics, early reading, writing, and maths activities
- Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Support children with SEN and additional learning needs
- Promote positive behaviour and classroom engagement
- Help create a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
- Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence, and participation
- Assist with classroom routines and daily organisation

Essential Requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children in a primary school or similar setting
- Understanding of KS1 curriculum and early learning
- Basic knowledge of phonics and early literacy development
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience as a Teaching Assistant, LSA, or Classroom Assistant
- Have supported pupils in KS1 or EYFS
- Be patient, nurturing, and approachable
- Be confident supporting phonics, literacy, and numeracy
- Have experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs
- Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable
- Be passionate about supporting children’s learning and development
