About the Role
We are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Teaching Assistant (TA) to join a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Basingstoke.
This role combines classroom support with a strong focus on ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) interventions, supporting pupils who may experience anxiety, low confidence, behavioural challenges, or additional emotional needs.
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral team to help pupils feel supported, regulated, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide classroom support across EYFS, KS1, or KS2
- Work as a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant supporting learning activities
- Deliver ELSA-style emotional literacy interventions (1:1 and small groups)
- Support pupils with SEN, SEMH, and behavioural needs
- Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills
- Assist with positive behaviour management strategies
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Support engagement, participation, and confidence in learning
- Monitor and record progress in both academic and emotional development
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment

Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Childcare qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children (school, childcare, youth work, or care settings)
- Understanding of SEN and/or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience as a Teaching Assistant (TA), Learning Support Assistant (LSA), SEN Support Assistant, or Youth Worker
- Have worked in a primary school or similar setting
- Be patient, calm, and empathetic
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills
- Be confident supporting children with additional needs
- Be proactive, adaptable, and reliable
- Be passionate about supporting children’s education and wellbeing
Desirable (Not Essential)
- ELSA training or experience
- Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, or behavioural needs
Safeguarding
