About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Southampton.

This role will involve supporting a KS1 class teacher, helping to deliver engaging lessons and ensuring all pupils are supported in their learning and development.

You will work closely with the teacher to provide whole-class, small group, and 1:1 support, helping children build strong foundations in phonics, literacy, and numeracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the KS1 class teacher in delivering engaging lessons
  • Provide classroom-based support in a mainstream primary setting
  • Assist with phonics, early reading, writing, and maths activities
  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Support children with SEN and additional learning needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and classroom engagement
  • Help create a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence, and participation
  • Assist with classroom routines and daily organisation

Essential Requirements

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience working with children in a primary school or similar setting
  • Understanding of KS1 curriculum and early learning
  • Basic knowledge of phonics and early literacy development
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience as a Teaching Assistant, LSA, or Classroom Assistant
  • Have supported pupils in KS1 or EYFS
  • Be patient, nurturing, and approachable
  • Be confident supporting phonics, literacy, and numeracy
  • Have experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs
  • Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable
  • Be passionate about supporting children’s learning and development
