Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Harlow, working on a 1:1 basis with a child with Autism (ASD). This is a full-time, long-term position starting immediately.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism, helping them access the curriculum
- Implement tailored strategies to support communication, behaviour, and emotional regulation
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver support in line with the EHCP
- Use a patient, consistent, and nurturing approach to build trust and engagement
- Support the child’s social development and independence throughout the school day
- Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with children with Autism and/or SEN
- Understanding of behaviour management strategies and SEN support techniques
- Knowledge of tools such as PECS, Makaton, or visual supports (desirable)
- A calm, resilient, and empathetic personality
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
